FAQs
Q: What sorts of events are you looking for?
A: We're as open as open can be. Obviously, we're not set up for croquet tournaments or go-kart races---and the city has strict regulations regarding nudity. Beyond that, the Varsity Theater's 20-foot ceilings are the limit. Theater, dance, music, film, and various combinations thereof are at the top of our priority list, but we'll consider any event that might attract a paying crowd and entertain it.
Q: Who can get involved?
A: Anyone---people with ideas, people with skills, people with an hour to spare and the willingness to haul lumber. If you'd like to be a part of the Varsity Theater Project but you're not sure what you want to do, come to one of out Thursday meetings. Together, we'll find an answer.
Q: Does the Varsity Theater be available for private parties?
A: Yer darn tootin'--for exceedingly reasonable rates! The full range of Loring Catering options will be available as well. Our events consultant will work with you to custom-design your menu, presentation and decor, flowers, entertainment, staff, equipment, and all of the other details necessary to make your event a complete success. Plus, you'll have a universe of sound, lighting, and projection possibilities to choose from.
Q: I understand that Dinkytown can get pretty congested: should I worry about parking?
A: Not at all! Like the Loring Pasta Bar, the Varsity Theater offers valet parking at exceeding modest rates. Easier still, let one of the three MTC bus lines that service Dinkytown be your magic carpet to an afternoon or evening of romance, intrigue, mystery, and adventure. Whether you're coming from Edina (#6), Uptown (#6), the Wedge (#2), Whittier (#2), downtown Minneapolis (#6, #3)-or even downtown Saint Paul (#3)-getting to and from the Varsity couldn't be easier. There's plenty of nearby bike parking, too!
